In a bizarre collaboration that breaks traditional expectations, Ubisoft has announced an digital partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, including complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Strange Adventure Revealed

According to the authorized announcement, "A strange meeting leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original quest, where whispers of banned practices and monstrous transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The storyline introduces a "strangely garbed woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a hidden sect.

The mission centers on "strange tests and a monstrous foe" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Places and Transformations

The preview showcases the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was previously where the Reiss royal family handed down the Founding Titan ability through ages. The trailer finishes with a dramatic moment showing a character, presumably the hostage, morphing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Unique Prizes and Additional Features

Players who accomplish the adventure will receive an unique katana alongside several items secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:

• Titan-inspired attire for Yasuke
• Mikasa costume for Naoe
• Exclusive implements
• Survey Corps mount

Latest Free Story Update

This release also adds the game's third free story episode, titled "A Puzzlement." This humorous mission pairs Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe debuts a dramatic variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke masters subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also includes a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually shed light on some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers

This represents not the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with famous anime series. The series formerly showcased a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Additionally, Valhalla subtly contained a quest that obviously nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
